5 ways that the Refreshing Face Toner will surprise you…

Bluebird Skincare Refreshing Face Toner

Bluebird Skincare has such a variety of products available and I love using so many of them, but my favourite by far is the Refreshing Face Toner. What your average shopper may not realise is that this product is far more diverse than the name would suggest! Here are 5 ways that I use the Toner that you might not expect!

1. Curing sunburn!

Storytime! I got really badly sunburnt during the heatwave this summer. The burn was incredibly painful, and I was desperate to ensure that it did not cause permanent damage to my skin. However, I did not have any specific after-sun products available and I didn’t want to leave the burn overnight in case it peeled. So, I started spraying layers of the Bluebird Skincare Toner onto the burn and letting it soak into my skin. It immediately eased the pain of the burn and allowed me to fall asleep. I kept applying the Toner and within a week my burn was completely gone with no lasting damage to my skin! It slowly added moisture back into my skin and I have already recommended this technique to all of my friends.

Whilst this was an accidental discovery, having researched the ingredients, the inclusion of the Aloe Barbadensis allows the Toner to have this healing property. Aloe Barbadensis is one of the most commonly known houseplants because of the Aloe Vera gel that you can find inside its leaves. I was pleasantly surprised to figure this out and, since I never leave my house without this spray, it is an absolute summer must-have!

2. Setting spray!

Setting sprays are widely discussed within the beauty community and, in my opinion, can be extremely pricey for very little pay-out. The goal of a setting spray is to melt make-up into the skin and make it stay in place all day. Now I don’t know about you, but I do not have enough money in my account to be experimenting with all the different setting sprays on the market and only tend to buy from drug stores, Boots or Superdrug. Despite years of searching, I had never found one that I actually- liked or that could keep up with my skin. I have very dry combination skin (which is as confusing as it sounds) and I have a very busy and active life where I end up sweating a lot. No setting spray has ever managed to keep my make-up in place, and I had pretty much given up on finding one. I was complaining about this to my friend, who recommended that I use the Toner as a setting spray. At first, I was sceptical because I thought that it would be too wet and would make my make-up run but I agreed to give it a go. I have never been so surprised in my life! Not only did the make-up melt into my face, making my skin look so dewy and healthy, but the make-up did not move an inch all day. I have now been using this technique for months and it has never failed me! If you have dry or combination skin like me, using a powder to set your face make-up can result in a very cakey finish which does not look good. After a few months of experimenting, I have completely cut out powder from my routine and now set my face make-up with this Toner, let it dry, finish my make-up and set my whole face. As a competitive dancer, it is so important to me that my make-up does not move when I am sweating excessively or when I have a long day and this Toner hasn’t failed me yet. I would definitely recommend that you give this a try.

3. Primer!

If you also watch Nikki-Tutorials and hang on to her every word, you’ll know that the golden rule of make-up is that “Not to prime is a crime”. However, I have always had the same problem with primers that I’ve had with setting sprays. They’re either too expensive, or they don’t add enough moisture to my skin, and I would end up using a load more moisturiser just to keep my skin healthy when I was wearing a full face of make-up. It was completely unsustainable. After a few months of this Toner holding my make-up in place so resolutely, I figured that I might try and incorporate it into my make-up routine even further and it really worked! My skin absolutely drinks up the goodness in the Toner and it really moisturises my skin so that when I start to apply my make-up, it looks so much better! I like to combine this with the Benefit Pore Professional primer for days when my pores aren’t looking great and my skin absolutely loves it!

4. Day time refresher for dry skin!

As I’ve said, my skin is incredibly dry and this can make the experience of wearing make-up for extended periods of time quite uncomfortable, especially if I’ve had a long day with lots of travel. To combat this, I have made a habit, of keeping the Toner in my bag at all times. Routinely throughout the day, I take the Toner out and spritz my face all over. It really helps to rehydrate my skin, even if I’m wearing a full face of make-up, and visibly increase the dewy appearance of skin so that my face looks healthy and happy, even after a long day. If you commute to work, school or university, I would definitely recommend this. We all know that sitting on public transport, especially in a mask, can cause utter chaos to your skin and your make-up. With this Toner and using it routinely throughout the day, I have managed to avoid the “macne” that so many young women have struggled with. Even when I’m not wearing make-up, I still make a point of routinely spraying my face with the Toner and rehydrating my skin. The benefits are incredible, and I love using it.

5. Night-time skincare!

Whilst this is primarily a day product, I love to integrate the Toner into my night-time skincare routine. Once I’ve washed my face and taken off my make-up, I spray my face with a thick coat of the Toner before applying my moisturiser so that it soaks directly into my pores. This routine has visibly reduced the number of breakouts that I have and has had the long-term effect of making my skin much brighter and more supple.

The benefits to the skin are to be expected when we look further into the ingredients. For example, Hamamolis Virginiana (more commonly known as Witch Hazel) is rich in tannins, which is a natural plant compound with powerful antioxidant properties. It has been found that it can help to protect your skin against damage when applied topically. As someone who has been using the Toner for several months consistently, I can testify to the fact that the properties of this ingredient shine through in the product!

This is my absolute favourite product from the Bluebird Skincare collection, and I would absolutely recommend that you try it out and use it in lots of different ways! I have even heard that it works as an amazing aftershave with cooling and healing properties, so even if make-up isn’t part of your daily routine, you will definitely experience the variety of benefits that the Toner has to offer!

Delve deep into Bluebird Skincare…

For your average shopper, looking at an ingredients list on a bottle of skincare can be really overwhelming. They always look super impressive and technical, but does that mean that they really work? Looking at the Face Cleansing Lotion from Bluebird Skincare, today we’re going to be doing a deep dive into what ingredients actually mean on a product to tell you whether they are worth investing in!

The first ingredient on the list has a highly technical name, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis, which translates to the Almond Tree. The oil from this tree has been cultivated for thousands of years in India and the Middle East and is revered as a natural cleanser for the skin. The oil is colourless and odourless and is famous for being one of the mildest and gentlest natural oils on the planet. It has been found to effectively tighten and minimises the look of sagging pores and rough bumps caused by age or sun damage.

The second ingredient is Ricinus Communis, otherwise known as Castor Oil. Castor oil has been found to have a variety of benefits for the skin, including clearing acne, treating wrinkles and soothing dry skin. It can also help with pigmentation and signs of ageing. It is also known for its anti-bacterial properties and it can make a real improvement to the health of your skin.

The next ingredient is Simmondsia Chinesis or Jojoba Oil. Jojoba oil is well-known for its ability to soothe dry skin. It has anti-inflammatory properties, which help to tame chaffing, reduce redness caused by drying, ease the effects of eczema and rosacea and keep skin calm and controllable. Jojoba Oil is rich in Vitamin E and B-complex vitamins, which help to repair skin and can control damage to the skin.

Coming up next, we have Glycerin. The benefits of Glycerin for the skin are varied, but its primary function is to hydrate skin and help it to retain moisture. Benefits can also include helping shield skin from environmental sources of irritation, working with emollients and oils to make dry skin feel soft and supple, strengthening your skin’s moisture barrier, enhancing the penetration of other ingredients into the uppermost layers of the skin and improving the resiliency and youthful appearance of skin.

Coming to the end of the list, you find Lavandula Angustifolia, or Lavender oil, which gives the product its distinctive lavender scent! It has been proven that lavender oil can benefit the skin in a variety of ways. It has been found to lessen acne, lighten the skin and reduce wrinkles. The presence of this ingredient truly enriches the health benefits for your skin of the Cleansing Lotion.

Finally, we have Myristic acid. This is a non-toxic fatty acid that occurs naturally in some foods. It is often found in facial cleansers because of its unique ability to wash away oils, making it the perfect ingredient for an effective Cleanser. It also helps to keep the skin hydrated and youthful in appearance.

In conclusion, whilst these ingredients may initially seem intimidating, they are simple, natural and healthy ingredients that will make your skin feel fresh, youthful and clear. You should definitely check out the Bluebird Skincare Face Cleansing Lotion to see these incredible ingredients in action!
