Winter is a time for festivities, good food and spending time with loved ones. But it’s also a time when the weather could affect our skin in a bad way.
From dryness to harsher skin reactions like chapping, itchiness, redness, irritation and sensitivity, the cold weather in winter can take its toll on our skin.
This happens because when we try to protect ourselves from the cold by wearing layers of warm clothing, it reduces our skin’s natural ability to breathe. This makes the skin more susceptible to stress.
When we take long warm showers, this strips our skin of its natural oils causing dryness.
So how do we care for our skin during the winter months?
1. Stay Hydrated: Drink at least 8 cups of water a day to keep your skin hydrated. Use a good body lotion like Luxury Body Lotion that uses shea butter and essential oils to moisturize the skin and lock in moisture without making the skin greasy.
2. Use the right cleanser: Face cleaners with alcohol and fragrances, are bad for dry skin as they strip away the skin’s natural oils. Instead, use cream-based cleansers like Cleansing Lotion to clean, tone and deeply rehydrate your skin in cold weather.
3. Exfoliate with a body scrub: Dead skin cells make the skin dull and dry, which is why exfoliating is important. Exfoliating with a gentle scrub like Brown Sugar Body Scrub removes dead skin cells and impurities to generate new skin cells and give the skin a better and fresh look.
4. Don’t forget your face: In winter, our face has high exposure to the cold which makes it dry. A face cream like Unscented Face Cream is needed to protect, hydrate and refresh the face with avocado oil and shea butter.
